Miniature Almanack for 1844
24mo. [41 x 25 mm]. (48) pp, entirely lithographed throughout, comprising decorative title-page, 13 plates, and 20 pp of text. Bound in publisher’s dark blue waxy wrappers with printed gilt title on front cover [Tylt's Miniature Almanack for 1844]. A very good copy. Extremely rare (third recorded copy?) of this early Victorian miniature almanac, perfectly preserved in its original waxy covers. Aside from the usual calendrical information, the work gives a list of ‘bankers’ and dates for dividends etc., as well as coach fares, eclipses, stamp duties, and standard interest rates on loan. Postage rates for the newly-invented postage stamp are also included; the plates generally depict bucolic scenes but others show views of Calcutta, Canton, and Dublin. Judging from library records, it does not seem that Goode (or Tylt) published miniature almancks with any regularity at all, and the present effort seems to be the only such work under this title. COPAC shows no copies at all in UK libraries, but OCLC shows two copies in US libraries, at Virginia and the Morgan.
