[ANNOTATED]
Fribourg, Innocent Theodoric Hautt
1736
US$ 450.00
HEAVILY ANNOTATED IN ITALIAN AND FRENCH. 12mo. [13 x 8 cm]. (72) pp, signed A-B6, C-D12, with woodcut arms on title-page. Calendar section entirely interleaved with 28 blanks, almost all of which are thoroughly annotated in a contemporary hand in both Italian and French; all corners of the calendar section clipped (to show tax paid) as issued. Bound in original sheep with both clasps preserved. A wonderfully genuine, well-used but well-preserved little item. A delightful example of this rare French-language almanac, used and annotated assiduously by a contemporary purchaser whose scrawls – in a seamless mixture of French and Italian – cover each of the interleaved blanks as well as both pastedowns. The notes for each month (many are dated) seem to range from bills to be paid to shopping lists (a lot of tea!), to the arrival and departure of local figures and goods. In the month of August, all economic activity appears to cease, leading to blank pages, but resumes in full force in September. We have been unable to trace any example of this almanac outside of Swiss libraries.
